More than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other utility personnel worked through the night and morning, though they were still repairing 226 active outages, which were impacting 3,504 of PSEG's near 1.1 million customers on Long Island.
According to PSEG, the hardest-hit areas include Northport, Ridge, Lloyd Harbor, and Huntington.
In Suffolk, 2,592 of PSEG Long Island’s customers were still reporting outages, including 1,088 in Huntington and 1,077 in Babylon.
Other outages were still being reported in Brookhaven (210), Islip (79), Smithtown (77), Southampton (25), Southold (17), East Hampton (15), and Riverhead (less than five).
In Nassau, there were still 904 customers reporting outages, with 507 in Oyster Bay, 368 in North Hempstead, and 29 in Hempstead.
PSEG estimated that full power restoration will be complete no later than 4:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.
“As of noon, PSEG Long Island has restored power to nearly 29,000 customers since 7 a.m. yesterday,” officials stated. “We expect to restore power to the majority of remaining customers affected by Ida by the end of the day.
“There will be a few tougher jobs that we expect will be resolved by tomorrow morning.”
